Dental Crowns
A dental crown is a custom-made cap that fits over the entire visible portion of a tooth. Crowns are used to restore teeth that have been significantly damaged, weakened, or broken, helping to rebuild their shape, strength, and function.
Crowns may be recommended in situations such as:
- A tooth that has been weakened by extensive decay or a large filling
- A cracked or fractured tooth that needs structural support
- Following root canal treatment to protect the treated tooth
- A tooth that is severely worn down or misshapen
- As the final restoration on a dental implant

Dental Bridges
A dental bridge is a fixed restoration used to replace one or more missing teeth. The bridge consists of one or more artificial teeth (pontics) held in place by crowns that are fitted over the natural teeth on either side of the gap.
Bridges can help address concerns related to missing teeth, including:
- Restoring the ability to chew and speak comfortably
- Maintaining the shape of your face
- Distributing bite forces by replacing missing teeth
- Helping to prevent remaining teeth from shifting out of position
Your dentist will assess whether a bridge is suitable for your situation, taking into account the condition of the supporting teeth and the number of teeth to be replaced.
Materials and Options
Crowns and bridges can be made from a range of materials, each with different characteristics. Your dentist will discuss the options with you and recommend the most appropriate material based on the location of the tooth and your individual needs.
- Porcelain — provides a natural tooth-like appearance and is commonly used for front teeth
- Ceramic — metal-free option offering good aesthetics and biocompatibility
- Zirconia — a strong ceramic material suitable for both front and back teeth
- Porcelain-fused-to-metal — combines the strength of a metal substructure with a porcelain outer layer
The process typically involves two or more appointments: an initial visit for preparation, impressions, and fitting of a temporary crown or bridge, followed by a second visit to place the permanent restoration.
